Airlines |
There is only one small
airport near the center of the island [airport code "MKK"].
Island Air provides multiple daily flights using
smaller commuter aircraft.
Island Air has some terrific rates if you book online. I recommend making
separate inter-island reservations. While there are also several unscheduled
carriers, I recommend using Island Air since they reliably fly into
Molokai. The last flight on Island Air is
usually about 6:30pm so be sure to schedule connections with enough time
to get to the Molokai airport at Hoolehua on at least the last flight of
the day, if not earlier. It's about a 15 minute walk from
United Airlines
in the main terminal to the commuter terminal where Island Air is located.
You can also take the Wiki Wiki bus to saving walking but it's takes about
the same amount of time. Click here for a
map. |

Tourist Information |
You will
find lots of great activity and travel information on the
Molokai Visitors Association
website. |
|
Car Rental |
You will
definitely need to rent a car on Molokai. The major car rental agencies
are your best bet. Be careful renting from one of the local used car
rental companies. If you are considering
some of the beaches on the North Side, you will need a FWD vehicle. Be
sure to arrange for your car rental before arriving on Molokai. Cars can
be scarce at some times in the winter.

Dress |
It is very easy to
bring many more clothes than you really need. Trust me, after over 20
seasons in Hawaii, you don't need much. The culture is very casual here.
Shorts and a t-shirt are all you need for everyday use. Aloha shirts are
popular anytime but particularly in the evening. Occasionally, it can be
cool in the evening so that a long pair of pants and a sweater,
sweatshirt, or light jacket are welcome. You might appreciate hiking shoes
if you plan to go to the mountains or hiking along the beaches. Casual
dress is the common dress at all local restaurants. |

Weather |
Average Daily High Temperature
There is always a nice breeze
blowing and the humidity is not high. It frequently cools off nicely in the
evening. The weather is very pleasant.
